October Outfits: Week Five (Part Two)

I wanted to share a few other items I picked up on Saturday:
This awesomely warm and cozy cardigan (size up for a slouchy fit) and this soft, basic cardigan, both from Old Navy.  Both were on sale during Old Navy's birthday sale.  I also went to Gap and picked up these tights, which were on my list, and this super soft bra which I couldn't resist - the fabric is so soft and I know it will be really comfortable - a perfect "at home" or "under pyjamas when staying at a friend's place" or "sharing a hotel room" kinda bra.  Neither was on sale, unfortunately, but both were reasonably priced (tights: $14.95, bra: $24.95) and I didn't see anything else in store, or on my list, that I would want to wait for and order online during a sale.  Although I love shopping online, sometimes the instant gratification of buying in person is really satisfying, too :)

October Outfits: Week Five (Part One)

10.27.2014

Hi everyone!  How was your weekend?

jules in flats: october - personal style blog - business casual workwear on a budget
(Left: Sweater by Gap (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Boots and Necklace by Aldo (both old, similar boots, similar necklace) // Right: Sweater by Banana Republic Factory (old, similar), Skirt by Forever 21 (old, similar), Tights by Gap, Booties by Old Navy (sold out, similar))

Mine was great!  I went shopping on Saturday after work and really powered through a marathon session at Forever 21.  I had three items to return (this faux-fur vest, this crochet/lace top, and this skirt) and they were running an in-store promo for 30% of dresses ... and you all know how much I love their dresses!  I think I tried on at least 20 dresses, as well as some lace tops and black skirts (also on my shopping list).  I came away with one dress, which will be great for the holidays (I don't see it online, this one is similar), and bunch of necklaces (1, 23, 4).  I am disappointed that so many of the dresses didn't work out, but that's just the way it goes with Forever 21 sometimes.  H&M too, I find I bring tons of stuff into the dressing room and often only a few end up working.  I'll share more of what I purchased later in the week.

Sunday felt super domestic as I made chocolate chip zucchini bread and curried zucchini soup with a huge zucchini from my sister's garden, acquired at Thanksgiving.  Yes, I have had a zucchini since then and yes it was still good!  The weather was finally nice (Saturday was horrendous and shopping in the rain was not fun) but T & I decided to lay low and spend the day at home.

Here's to a great week ahead!

October Outfits: Week Four (Part Two)

10.24.2014

Hi! Happy Friday!

(Left: Sweater by Target (old, similar), Top by H&M (old, similar), Tights by Gap, Boots by Aldo (old, similar), Necklace by Tiffany & Co. // Right: Cardigan by Zara (old, similar), Dress by Gap (old, similar), Belt by J.Crew Factory (old, similar), Tights by Urban Outfitters (old, similar), Shoes by Aldo (old, similar))

Here are two works from earlier this week ... the left was a from a more casual day at the gallery - so nice to wear leggings, a long drapey top and a cozy sweater!  And then back to the usual business casual/preppy vibe I often go for, on the right.

This weekend T & I need to get our Halloween costumes sorted, and I am going to do some shopping on Robson Street as I need to return a few items from a Forever 21 online order ... and then look around at a few more things!  Items I'm on the lookout for: black leather moto jacket, black faux fur vest, black skirt (holy black!), lace top, long black cardigan and long sleeved dresses.

Any exciting weekend plans for you?

October Outfits - Week Four (Part One)

10.22.2014

I am such a procrastinator when it comes to writing!  I've had this blog entry open for an hour - opening new tabs to "get inspiration" on what to write and finally realizing that I am just putting it off.  It's not just the blog - any writing that needs to be done (essays for work, past school assignments/projects/essays) - are all thoroughly put off until the last minute.  I don't mind doing the research or prep work (in this case, photo editing & link building) but when I feel I should really say something, I clam up.

(Left: Top by Banana Republic Factory, Blazer by H&M (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Shoes by Forever 21, Necklace by Tiffany & Co. // Right: Top by H&M (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Shoes by Vince Camuto (outlet), Necklace by H&M (old, similar))

I bring this up because I find it very interesting that some personal style bloggers (and other types of bloggers, too) consider themselves writers, or at least part of the reason they started to blog (and continue to) is because they like to write.  But then there are other bloggers who often write very little.  It's hard for me to know what to write about on the blog when I don't have much to say.  I think part of it stems from not knowing what it is that anyone who visits my blog likes to read about here.

For me, the blog is not a writing outlet.  It's a place where I can keep an account of my daily outfits and hopefully provide outfit inspiration for others.  What I wear is not always exciting, or new, or trendy - but I feel like so many real women don't dress that way, either!  So what I show is the real me, and I hope that anyone who comes across my little blog can take something positive away from it.

If you have any thoughts on this post, please leave me a note in the comments!

October Outfits: Week Three

10.20.2014

Hi everyone! Happy Monday!
Did you all have a great weekend?
(Left: Sweater by J.Crew Factory (this colour from last year), Pants by Target, Shoes by Aldo (old, similar), Necklace by H&M (old, similar) // Right: Blazer by H&M (old, similar), Dress by Forever 21 (sold out, similar), Belt by J.Crew Factory (old, similar), Tights by Gap, Boots by Aldo (old, similar))

Mine was short (only one day!) & jam-packed, but great.  We had visitors two nights, laundry, groceries and car cleaning/showing (we're selling our car).  Talk about the most productive Sunday ever!

(Left: Top by H&M (old, similar), Vest by H&M (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Booties by Old Navy (sold out, similar) // Right: Cardigan by Gap (old, similar), Top by Gap (old, similar), Skirt by Gap Factory (old, similar), Tights by Urban Outfitters (old, similar), Shoes by Forever 21, Necklace by Forever 21 (old, similar)

Just as an FYI, in the above
right photo I changed into black ballet flats rather than the grey loafers because I thought they looked a little weird after looking at the photos.  What do you think?

October Outfits: Week Two

10.16.2014

Hi everyone!
Here's what I wore in the second week of October (last week :))

(Left: Sweater by Gap Factory (old, similar), Skirt by Jacob (old, similar), Necklace by H&M (old, similar), Shoes by Vince Camuto (outlet) // Right: Blazer by H&M (old, similar), Top by Old Navy (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Pants by Vince Camuto (outlet))

Polka dots on the first two days ...

(Left: Sweater by J.Crew Factory (old, similar), Skirt by Forever 21 (old, similar), Shoes by Forever 21 // Right: Blazer by Jacob (old, similar), Top by H&M (old, similar), Pants by H&M (old, similar), Shoes by Vince Camuto (outlet), Necklace by Aldo (old, similar))

And stripes on the last two!

Since we got back from Thanksgiving, the weather has definitely cooled down a bit and it feels like fall.  I ordered the grey faux suede loafers I'm wearing with the yellow skirt above from Forever 21 last week.  I actually ordered a bunch of items, but these were the only keepers :(  Happy wallet, sad closet.  I love grey as an alternative to black - not just for shoes but for any items of clothing - it's neutral so it goes with everything, but it's not quite as harsh as black.  Do you agree?

 Have a great weekend!

October Outfits: Week One

10.15.2014

Hi everyone!  Happy Wednesday!
(Left: Sweater by Gap Factory (old, similar), Pants by H&M (old, similar), Shoes by Aldo (old, similar), Necklaces by Tiffany & Co. and Forever 21 (similar) // Right: Sweater by Target (old, similar), Dress by Forever 21 (old, similar), Shoes by Old Navy (sold out, similar), Belt by Forever 21 (old, similar))

How was your weekend?
Ours was great, and it was especially nice having that extra day off.  The weather was quite mild in the Okanagan, which is unusual for this time of year, but on par with the weather in the rest of BC this fall so far.  We ate lots of really good, homemade and homegrown food and spent a lot of time with family.  We also hot-tubbed all three nights we were away :)

(Left: Top by Forever 21 (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Shoes by Aldo (old, similar) // Right: Sweater by Gap (old, similar), Pants by H&M (old, similar), Shoes by Aldo (old, similar), Necklace by Tiffany & Co.)

I hope you enjoy these outfits from the first week in October!  The boots in the top right are a new purchase from Old Navy, as are the burgundy pants in the bottom left.  I had been eyeing them both for weeks, waiting for my size and a sale to coincide.  Luckily, I had time before a work event a few weeks ago to pop into the Old Navy store downtown, and the boots were 35% off (=$25.96) and the pants were on sale for $25 (regular $39.94)!  On top of that I was able to use an email coupon for 15% off.  Totally awesome score.

September Outfits: Week Five

10.10.2014

Hi!  So I was just about to post this with only the first two outfits below and couldn't figure out why there were only two when usually it works out so well with 4 per week!

(Left: Top by H&M (old, similar), Sweater Vest by Gap Factory (old, similar), Skirt by Forever 21, Shoes by Aldo (old, similar), Necklace by H&M  (old, similar) // Right: Blazer and Dress by H&M (both old, similar dress, similar blazer), Belt by Joe Fresh (old, similar), Shoes by Banana Republic Factory (old, similar))

And then I found these two outfits that didn't get posted yet!  They are from the beginning of the month, so they're not in order but in any case, here they are:

(Left: Cardigan by Zara (old, similar), Top by Urban Outfitters (old, similar), Skirt by Nordstrom Rack (similar), Sandals by Old Navy (sold out, similar) // Right: Blazer by H&M (old, similar), Top by Old Navy (old, similar), Pants by Old Navy, Shoes by Aldo (old, similar))

I hope all my Canadian readers have a fantastic long weekend!  My monthly outfit roundup for September will be posted on Monday and then I'll be caught up to October (sigh of relief).  Have a great one, y'all!

September Outfits: Week Four

10.08.2014

Here's a look at what I wore during the last week in September:

This weekend is Thanksgiving and T and I are headed to the Okanagan to spend it with my family.  My parents are going to Australia and New Zealand for almost 6 months at the end of October so this will be the last time we'll be seeing them (and having a whole-family get together) for quite some time.

(Left: Top by Dynamite (old, similar), Skirt by Gap Factory (similar), Shoes by Vince Camuto (outlet) // Right: Sweater by Gap (old, similar), Pants by Target, Shoes by Banana Republic Factory (old, similar), Necklace by Aldo (old, similar))

I always love Thanksgiving - turkey, stuffing and gravy are faves of mine, and of course there is always lots of wine flowing!  Usually I contribute a pumpkin cheesecake to our festive dinner, we'll see if the family feels like that again this year :)
