Jules in Flats - June Outfits

Jules in Flats - June Outfits

Hi everyone!  Here's a look at what I wore to work last week.

It was quite hot at the beginning of the week, so sleeveless, lightweight dresses were perfect.  I kept my outfits pretty simple, but you could always add a statement necklace or fun sandals.  Since the AC was blasting at work, I brought a lightweight cardigan to wear indoors each day.

My favourite outfit of the week is the white dress.  I don't know why, it's so simple, but I just felt really great that day and I think it showed as I got two compliments on my outfit that day!

My girls weekend at the lake (last weekend) was so much fun!  The weather was absolutely perfect so we had a great time lounging on the dock in the sun, painting our nails, gossiping and eating and drinking.

Back at home, progress continues with the kitchen renovation and facelift to list our place for sale!  The backsplash tile went up this week and while it looks really good, T and I both wish we'd picked a darker grout ... he's going to see if a grout sealer will darken it a bit.  The electrician needs to come again so we can have working outlets in the kitchen (still using extension cords everywhere!), the sliding doors separating our living room and den were installed this week, and movers came to take a bunch of boxes to our storage locker.  This weekend I'm selling furniture we don't need, and next week we meet with a home stager and our realtor!

In shopping news, these white jeans arrived in the bigger size (4P) but they were still a little snug, and since I didn't love them, they're going back.  I do have a pair of white skinny jeans already, I just feel a little self-conscious in them since they're so tight, so I don't exactly need another pair.  These overalls from Gap also arrived and while I wish I could get on board with this trend, I just felt I looked like a farmer wearing them!  Maybe it was the relaxed fit, but they're going back.  These shortalls on the other hand are cute, so they're a maybe, and I'm definitely keeping this yellow eyelet top.  These denim shorts are also a maybe (they're quite short!), and these mules didn't match the dress I wanted to wear them with, so they're going back as well :(

Next weekend is a long weekend since Canada Day is on Sunday (so we get the Monday off), but T and I are planning on staying in town in case we need to do any last-minute apartment things (we're hoping to have our first open house the following weekend!).  We had dinner with friends last night who'll be in town next weekend too, and they're planning on doing a hike in Squamish so I'm excited to join them for that!  But no plans other than that!

What are you guys up to for the long weekend?  For my American readers - are any of you making July 4 into a long weekend or not really since it's in the middle of the week?

XO JULES

Hi everyone!  How are you?

Here's a look at what I wore to work last week.

My 40% off J.Crew order arrived with 3 pairs of culottes, and the 2 Petite ended up working the best.  I ordered them in the grey because the black was backordered, and while I think black is more versatile, I'm glad I decided to keep the grey.  It's nice and light and Spring-y, and I probably won't be wearing them too much in the Winter so they are seasonally appropriate.  Although, with a thick cream or white cropped sweater I think they would look really cute!

The other new item I'm wearing this week is this tie-front blouse from Dynamite.  Unfortunately this pattern is sold out, but I've linked to the exact same top just in solid colours.  I'm obsessed with tie-front tops this year and am wondering how many is too many??  They are great with high waist pants and skirts and because they nip in at the smallest part of your waist, they make your legs look longer!  Somehow I didn't have a white floral top so this fills a nice gap in my closet and I can see wearing it on the weekends too with jeans or shorts.

The second two outfits I am kind of meh on.  Well, the third one with the navy pants and grey blazer especially.  I was having a hard time deciding what to wear that day, and then everything I put on just felt so tight (probably the huge bowl of ramen I scarfed down the night before?!).  So, I wasn't feeling great about this outfit to begin with, and then the photos didn't turn out very well either.  Bleh.

The final outfit with the skirt I actually liked better in person, but in the photos I think I look a little dowdy.  Maybe midi skirts are not as flattering as I thought they were?  Also, what is happening with the hem on this skirt?  It is weirdly uneven on the left ...!

Anyways, this weekend I am going to Vancouver Island for my bestie's Bachelorette party!!  We've rented a house on the lake and I'm so excited for some girl time (plus, the weather is supposed to be great!).  I don't think I've touched on this much on the blog, but I don't have many girlfriends here in Vancouver.  Most of them have moved away, and while we still keep in touch, it's not quite the same as having a friend in the same city that you can see all the time!  I am a shy person, so reaching out to new people is hard for me.  When I think back on it, most of the friends I made after high school were initiated by the other person!  I know I'm not alone in struggling to make friends as an adult - Carly just wrote about it, Grace has talked about it multiple times and even started this Facebook page so her readers could get to know each other, and the Everygirl has done a post or two about it as well.  I know that part of the problem for me in particular, is that given the choice between hanging out with T, and doing pretty much anything else, including a possibly awkward social outing with new 'friends' or people I don't know, is that I would always choose T.  And while maybe that worked when my friends actually lived here, I think it's time I put myself out there and made some new friends!

But back to the clothes!  Last week I mentioned I was waiting for these white jeans to arrive and I don't know if I've gained weight, but I could barely squeeze into them!  I ordered my regular size in Old Navy pants, 2 (and also 2P for length), so maybe this style just runs small?  I thought it was so strange because in my experience ON runs large.  But in any case, I've exchanged them for a 4P so fingers crossed they fit better!  I also ordered 2 pairs of overalls, these ones from Gap and these "shortalls" from Old Navy, along with this cute mustard top, these denim cutoffs and these block heel mules in coral to try with this dress for the wedding we are going to this summer.  I'm not totally sure I can pull off overalls, but I'm excited to get them to try!

Anyways, thank you all so much for visiting and I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi everyone!  How are you?

Here's a look at what I wore to work to last week.

I am in LOVE with the kimono I bought from Dynamite!  It's funny, I actually ordered two, and thought that I would keep the other one since it's shorter and would work better on me since I'm short (5'3"), but I just couldn't help myself with the maxi version!  I can't wait to wear it on the weekends with jeans or jean shorts, and I'm also excited to try it over a LBD.

I ordered a bunch of other things from Dynamite that I thought I was going to love, but am sending back: this jumpsuit, this striped dress, this wrap dress (look SO cute on the model, but not on me) and the shorter kimono.  I kept this tie-front floral top which I will likely wear next week (it needs a good steam!).

I also ordered a few things from Old Navy/Gap that didn't work out: these loafer espadrilles mules, this trapeze dress, this skirt and these overallsThis dress is a maybe - right now it fits on the large size, but since it's cotton it will shrink in the wash ... at which time maybe it will fit better?!  I've also ordered these white jeans in 2 sizes to try, but they haven't arrived yet.

Next weekend is my bestie's bachelorette party on Vancouver Island!  We've rented a lake house with a hot tub and I think it's going to be a really nice, chill weekend with a small group of gals, lots of wine, and maybe a few dick games thrown in for good measure! LOL The wedding is in July and will be at her parent's vineyard (also on Vancouver Island) - how dreamy, right?

As for this weekend, we don't have much planned other than a couple of open houses this afternoon.  We have a lot of packing that still needs to be done, so that may happen as well - we'll see! LOL

I hope you all have a great weekend and thank you for visiting!
