Jules in Flats - December Outfits (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!  Welcome to my last week of work outfits for 2019!!

I'll be back before the New Year with my Monthly Outfit Roundup for December, and maybe I'll do a favourite outfits of 2019 post?  What do you think?

Jules in Flats - Old Navy Pleated Tie Neck Swing Dress (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

I woke up an HOUR late on Monday and barely had time to take these pics let alone decide what to wear, so I slipped on this easy no-iron dress and was good to go!  It's an older style from Old Navy but I found a super similar one at the US store (sorry fellow Canadians!).

Another Old Navy outfit!  Also you can't really tell here but I am wearing a tortoise shell headband AND hoops!

Jules in Flats - Patterned Sheath Dress with Wilfred Olivie Sweater Vest (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

Normally (and in the past) I've worn this outfit with my black Wilfred vest, but since I've worn the black one the past two weeks, I thought I should switch it up!

Jules in Flats - Polka Dots & Camel (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

I didn't realize how sloppily my blouse was tucked in until I saw these pics - it looked fine in the mirror I swear!  In any case, I like how this outfit is subtly festive - red lips, a little velvet, a double dose of polka dots ... black, white, camel!

Are you guys done work for the year?  My last day was yesterday and I am READY to relax!  We are supposed to drive up to the Okanagan tomorrow but the highway is currently closed due to heavy snowfall / bad conditions / accidents ... so we'll just have to keep our eye on that!  There's no great rush to get there, except we have tickets to The Rise of Skywalker on Monday in Penticton, so it would be nice to be able to make it for that!

Last weekend I did some holiday baking, this dark chocolate pistachio bark & homemade almond toffee have been my go-to's for the past couple of years.  On Wednesday night I made cranberry cheesecake shortbread bars for the little holiday social we had at work on Thursday.  I thought I had made this dessert before; I had half a bag of frozen cranberries in the freezer and can't recall what else I would have used them for, but when I started making the recipe none of it felt familiar!  In fact it all felt wrong - the shortbread crust didn't come together like I thought it should, the cheesecake filling half set while I was making the cranberry sauce; the sauce didn't thicken, it was too sweet and there was too much of it!  But they actually look good and taste great so I guess I did it right?!

Also, my aunt asked me to bring a dessert to Christmas dinner, so I think I'm going to make this salted caramel apple upside down cake, which I made last year for a friend's holiday party.  I got an apple peeler at my work's white elephant gift exchange, so I could use this opportunity to test it out!

This week we watched Joker.  WOW.  It's intense.  It's upsetting.  It's thought-provoking.  Joaquin's performance is amazing.  I think he definitely deserves the Oscar.  T doesn't think he'll win because the Oscars won't want to promote the movie ... so we'll see!  Have you guys seen it?

Loved the Dirty Dancing episode of Movies that Made Us.

Haven't read any more of Where the Crawdads Sing since last weekend but am close to the end and am loving it!

Listened to Be There in Five's interview with Ashley Hesseltine and found myself smiling and laughing alongside them a lot, especially the nostalgia bits about high school and college.  Howie Day Collide!  LOL

Went to see Knives Out last weekend.  It's not a movie we were particularly interested in seeing at the theatre, but we needed something to do!  I thought it was okay but I know a lot people will really like it - it's designed to be a crowd-pleaser.  The audience we saw it with loved it (they were very vocal) and the guy next to me was commenting to his partner on everything ... it was all very distracting!!

I am looking for a new planner / notebook for 2020 and really liked these ones from Moorea Seal but the shipping to Canada is $22!  Please let me know if you have any recommendations that are available in Canada ... maybe Etsy?  I looked at Chapters / Indigo but didn't see anything ...

Got an Instagram ad for a blue light acne pen which sounds totally bogus but the comments were really positive!  I have a tab open to start researching ... my acne has been out of control so I am desperate!  LOL

Speaking of acne, a couple of weeks ago I made myself an oil of oregano roller and it really works!  I use it before bed and roll it on any current zits or ones I feel coming on.  I don't love using oil on my already oily skin and would love to find something with oil of oregano that I can use all over my face to hopefully prevent breakouts from even occurring in the first place.  Does this exist?

I used to wash my face in the morning with just water, but I've started using this and I think it's helping!

I cracked the back of my phone so got a new case & strap to cover it up!  I'm still getting used to the strap, I think I might have put it on too high??  Also the buttons on the case are a little clunky ...

What are you guys up to for the holidays??  Let me know in the comments!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and thank you so much for reading!

xo JULES
