Jules in Flats - June Outfits Week Three (Business Casual Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!

As I mentioned last week, we went to the Okanagan to visit my family on the weekend!  We had pretty lovely weather while we were there and a jam-packed schedule!  We left Vancouver at lunch time on Friday and that night enjoyed dinner with my parents on their deck.  We slept over at my sister's house and in the morning drove up to Summerland to catch the last of my niece's soccer games for the season.  Then, we drove back to Penticton and walked through the farmer's market on Main Street to the car show!  My nephew loves cars so that activity was for him :) We grabbed lunch at the market (I had a bag of mini donuts - my fave!) and then hit up a few wineries on the way home!  That night we met my parents and my cousin at the local theatre to watch my niece perform in her year-end dance recital, followed by a delicious charcuterie board & card games.

On Sunday my parents hosted brunch for everyone and then we hung out poolside while the kids splashed and played.  We got back on the road in the afternoon and arrived back in Vancouver around 7:30pm last night!

I was so tired today at work - the weekend really did me in!  LOL Also, it was grey & rainy for the better part of today which kind of made me depressed/more tired, and even though it was sunny by the time I was finished work, I couldn't bring myself to do a workout 🤷

Next weekend is a long one for us Canadians, since it's Canada Day next Monday, July 1!  We don't have any set plans right now - some local friends have invited us over Sunday night but also my sister and her husband (and possibly the kids?) might come down and stay with us!  They are redoing their kitchen and want to check out the Ikea cabinets (and the Kitchen Event starts this weekend) so we'll see!

In upsetting news, on Friday we found out that this big beautiful tree on our patio that provides us with a lot of privacy from the street and neighbours is going to be removed this week!  I mentioned this months ago, but all of the balconies on our apartment building are going to be refinished.  What we didn't realize (because we didn't see the plans) is that this tree needs to be removed in order for the contractors to put up scaffolding to do the refinishing (this tree is very close to both ours and our upstair's neighbours' balconies).  In the next two weeks we should know when the scaffolding is going to go up, after which we basically won't be able use our patio for the rest of the summer 😢

Okay, let's talk about the outfits now!

Outfit #1: This is my favourite outfit of the week!  There's nothing new about it but I felt great in it and I think it photographed well!

Outfit #2: This outfit had potential but was not executed properly.  For one, I should have steamed the cami.  Secondly, I should have made my hair look better.  Third, skinny ankle pants probably would have looked better than this straight-cut pair.  But, this cami is super cute for weekend wear (it's a bit too low-cut for workwear in hindsight) and I'm happy with my scalloped sandals from J.Crew Factory!  They're a bit stiff in the heel so I need to wear them in a bit more - just a heads up if you're inclined to buy them too!

Outfit #3: I felt like I was in 'bedroom wear' in this outfit but my colleague Kate assured me it was a cute and work-appropriate outfit!  I don't love the bodycon silhouette as I'm super self-conscious of my food baby, but it's nice to switch things up every now and again.  My dress & kimono are both older items but I found great dupes for you!

Outfit #4: I wanted to love this top, but it's too boxy!  I mean, it looks like a tent on me.  Also, I wasn't happy with my hair.

I have some online shopping to tell you about as well but this post is getting a little lengthy so I think I'll save it for next week!

As always, thank you for reading!

xo JULES

  1. Oh no! That is sad about the tree! I am always sad when trees are cut down if it's not because they are dead. I hope they replant one! I love that long kimono of yours. It makes such a nice summer layer especially with a dress!

  2. It's a shame about the tree, it's a lovely backdrop for your photos! I really like your grey dress and maxi kimono outfit too, so fun! I really want to start wearing dresses and kimonos again when it gets warmer here!

Hope that you have a great weekend! :)
