Jules in Flats: April Outfits (Business Casual Spring Workwear on a Budget)

Jules in Flats: April Outfits (Business Casual Spring Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!  Happy Easter!

We went to Vancouver Island for the long weekend to visit friends and got home last night.  We had amazing weather on Saturday and spent lots of time outside enjoying it - wine tasting, shopping, and drinking rose on my friends' parent's deck overlooking their vineyard #swoon.

We are back home today and both of us have the day off work.  Once again it's raining so we probably won't be venturing out much.  I just ordered groceries for delivery since the fridge is completely empty and I'm too lazy to go out to the actual store, and I'll probably do some laundry etc. later on.  Do you guys do grocery delivery?

What are you up to this weekend?  Do you have today off too?

I decided to return the sunglasses and mules from my H&M order, and I've kept the Old Navy jumpsuit for now but will probably return it.  I've ordered a few pairs of white jeans to try and will report back with my findings (I'm trying this pair from Gap, this pair from Banana Republic, and these and these by Levi's).  I also re-ordered a couple of things from H&M that didn't fit or weren't in stock the first time: this midi skirt, this straw bag, this circle skirt, this headband in cream and pink, this dress to try for the work gala I'm going to on Saturday, and this blouse in dusty rose.

I also ordered from a dress rental service called Boro for my work gala!  Rent the Runway doesn't ship to Canada, so I searched for Canadian options and found Boro which is based in Toronto.  I've ordered this BCBG dress, with this and this as backups which they include for free.  If none of the dresses work I can ship them back free of charge and I only had to pay $20 to have them shipped to me in the first place!  They should arrive on Friday, and the gala is Saturday.  The rental period is 4 days so I have until Monday to ship them back.  Plus I have the H&M dress to try, so I'm excited to see if anything works!  If not, I have my trusty black lace dress from Aritzia that I can wear.

I'm pretty happy with my outfits from this week although I've worn all of them before, and I'm sad I had to go back to wearing tights with dresses because it rained all last week.  That also explains why the photos this week aren't that great, sorry!  I am loving the Camellia bush on our patio though - isn't it pretty?!

What else have I been up to this week?  We watched the latest episode of GOT and Homecoming by Beyonce last night and earlier in the week The Voice UK finale and Survivor.  We've also bee watching a lot of Frasier re-runs! 🤷 I started reading Becoming by Michelle Obama on the ferry ride to Vancouver Island and it's good, but I'm not 'hooked' yet, you know?  It's something you have to be in the mood to read.

I've been listening to a lot of Bad on Paper Podcast, but feel like I need another sort of similar one as back up.  If you have any recos please leave them in the comments below!  In the most recent episode, Grace and Becca talk about what it's really like to be self-employed and I LOVED how Grace called out all the bloggers currently working with Walmart.  She said she was offered a LOT of money to work with them, and she turned it down because she doesn't shop there!  I just found that super refreshing because yes, a lot of the bloggers that I follow and love have been doing sponsored content with Walmart and it's not believable to me that they shop there because they have never mentioned shopping there before!  And also I don't shop at Walmart and I wouldn't want to support that brand, so I find it a little sad that others are doing it just for $$ but hey, it's their business!  Also, no shade to anyone that does shop at Walmart!  I don't judge you, it's just not for me.

We have been doing some home decorating as well.  A few weeks ago (when it was sunny), we picked out some patio furniture and it arrived last week so Tony was busy putting it together on Thursday night.  Of course it's been raining since then so we can't put it out yet, and we still need to decide on an outdoor rug and a coffee table/fire pit.  We ordered this rug to try in our dining room and I really hope it works!  We've been looking for a persian rug pretty much since we moved in (in September!) so fingers crossed!  We also ordered a new couch for our living room!  (It's not online so I can't link it, sorry!) . It's slightly larger than our current couch, which is funny because originally we were thinking we needed something the same size or smaller, but the main thing is that it's a lighter colour (our current couch is charcoal grey), so hopefully it will lighten up the whole space.  Once the new couch is in we'll start looking for a living room rug and new coffee table.  We've also been on the hunt for one or two poufs!  We have this chair from West Elm that needs a footstool, plus with a new, smaller coffee table we figure we'll have space for another pouf as a footrest/extra seating.

I need to put some time into figuring out Spotify as well.  I got it for my phone maybe a month or two ago?  It was shortly after I upgraded to the iPhone XS.  Tony's had Spotify for awhile now, at least since last summer, and we'll use it at home through the TV to play music.  I used to use iTunes, and my phones never had enough storage for my entire iTunes library, so I would only ever have a selection of artists and albums on my phone and I would literally just shuffle play through all of them, unless there was a specific album I was obsessed with at the time (Lemonade comes to mind!).  Anyways, now that I have Spotify I've just been listening to random playlists which is fine sometimes, but what I really want is to 'shuffle play' through songs I already know and love!  Is there an easy way to do this?  I'm not a playlist maker!!  I may just have to go back to iTunes LOL

Anyways, I hope you had a great Easter weekend and thank you so much for visiting!

  2. Such cute outfits! I love the prints, especially the dresses, that first printed one is so cute! :)

Good luck figuring out Spotify! I tend to just have it on a music channel I like as it's too much effort to make playlists, haha!

Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp :)

Hope that your week is off to a good start :)
