Jules in Flats April Outfits (Business Casual Spring Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone, happy Saturday!

Tonight I am going to a work event in Whistler!  If you remember I've been ordering jumpsuits and dresses to try on for this gala all month.  The dress code is "black tie optional" and while I do have a black lace dress that I usually wear to these events, I wanted to switch it up this time.  Also, my go-to dress is short, and at "black tie" events I've noticed a lot of women wear longer dresses.  So what I ended up deciding on is a dress I borrowed from Boro!  I talked about them here, and this is the dress!  I'm going to pair it with gold tassel earrings, a red lip and black pumps.  I wish I had some dressy black sandals instead but oh well!  The dress only cost me $40 to rent + $20 shipping and when I return it tomorrow it's free!  I can see why so many people use RTR, it's a great idea!

I have to be honest, I've been finding it really hard to get dressed these past two weeks!  I feel like I have nothing to wear and all of my outfits are just the same old thing.  I swear I've worn all of these exact outfits before!  Which is the same thing I said last week!  🤷 Also, I've just kind of been having some low self esteem lately.  I feel like nothing fits, everything is too tight or too short or hugs in the wrong places, so that isn't a good feeling.  I'm sure it will pass but it's not a nice place to be.  I've been trying to be more mindful about food and exercise as well, so hopefully getting more consistent on that will help.

Anyways, my HBC order arrived this week with these two pairs of white Levi's and this black midi skirt.  Well, the whole order was a bust!  First of all, these Levi's have embroidered flowers down the leg!  This pair was way too tight and the fabric on the skirt was shiny and plastic-y and awful.

My H&M order arrived as well, as you can see I'm wearing one of the headbands this week!  I kept both, as well as this straw bag and this blouse.  The black midi skirts (here, here) were both no's and I didn't love how the dress looked on me.

I've only had one shopping experience with ASOS and it was a bad one (in short, they lost my order), so I've been very reluctant to shop with them again.  But as you know I'm on a desperate mission for a black midi skirt so I decided to give them another chance and ordered this one with box pleats, this floral one, this jumpsuit and this cute scalloped mini skirt.  Fingers crossed this order doesn't get lost in transit!

The rug for our dining room arrived and it looks great!  It's amazing what a difference it makes to the whole space.  In annoying news however our new couch was supposed to be ready at the end of this month but when Tony called to check on it, they told us that the fabric we chose won't be available until June/July!  We ordered this couch about a month ago and they never contacted us to let us know about the fabric issue, so that's pretty frustrating.  We are hoping they will offer us some sort of discount for the trouble.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend and thank you so much for visiting!

xo JULES

  3. I've been in a style rut myself lately. I keep ordering things and they aren't fitting like I want! Your gala outfit is beautiful, I've never tried RTR, but I do think the rental concept is great!

    1. Ugh, same! It's so frustrating! I would highly recommend the RTR concept if you ever need a special occasion dress, they made it very easy!
