Jules in Flats - November Outfits (Business Casual Fall Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!  Long time no talk - how are you?

I hope all of my American readers had a great Thanksgiving and long weekend with friends and family!  On Wednesday the 21st we had our fall live auction in Toronto, so I went there from Sunday to Thursday, traveling back to Vancouver on the 22nd.  The next night, my parents came to stay for the weekend (they wanted to see our new place!), so I'm glad that this weekend we don't have any plans and can spend some time together and just relax.

I was able to get some Cyber Week shopping in though, despite the busy weekend! ;)

I saw that Gap had a bomber-style cardigan, which I thought was super cute and could be a nice topper for dresses in the winter, as an alternative to a regular cardigan or blazer.  When it arrived I tried it on with a cami and was immediately itchy so sadly it had to go back.  BUT I was determined to find a replacement so I ordered this one from H&M to try, which I got for 20% off + free shipping.  Additionally from H&M I ordered this velvet hairband, this dusty blue dress with a tie-neck, a pink cashmere toque and a pink lace top that I think will be perfect for holiday parties!

The cream sweater I'm wearing above is also new from Old Navy, and it is so soft and cozy!  I definitely recommend it if you're in the market.  I also ordered this lavender sweater from Gap which I haven't worn yet but I love the colour and fit.  Perfect for work + weekend.  Also, how cute is my pink plaid skirt?!  I bought it from Forever 21 months ago in anticipation of wearing it in the winter and I'm so glad I did!  It's sold out now unfortunately but I've linked to some similar ones if you're in the market for one!

I ordered this burgundy floral dress in a couple of different sizes and so far the regular XS and Petite S haven't quite fit right so I'm waiting for the Petite XS to see if it's the Goldilocks dress!  LOL

I'm also excited for this jumpsuit and these pajamas to arrive, along with these two longer cardigans to compare.  I do have a longer black cardigan, but I was hoping to find something the same length as some of my mini dresses, rather than slightly shorter, which my current one is.

In non-shopping news, I get to put up our Christmas tree this weekend!  Our rule is December 1st so this weekend is it!  Last weekend we went to the Christmas Market and the holiday edition of Flyover Canada with my parents which was so lovely and festive, even though going in November felt a little early! LOL We were also going to go to the Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain, but it was raining so we figured we wouldn't be able to see anything!

Stay tuned for my Monthly Outfit Roundup for November which I'll be posting tomorrow!

Jules in Flats - November Outfits (Business Casual Fall Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!

I'm wearing lots of new items this week, which are all still in stock! Yay! LOL

First up, these plaid pants from Old Navy. You've seen them before, but they're still pretty new and available to buy if you still need a plaid fix for this season!

Second, these patent oxfords with velvet laces from Aldo. I mean, how cute right?!

Next, this adorable scalloped sweater from Dynamite.  I love this colour for fall!

This sweater doesn't have the best reviews, but I've worn it a couple of times so far and it's holding up well, so fingers crossed it stays that way!

From J.Crew and J.Crew Factory - this ruffle sleeve pullover sweater and this adorable velvet hair bow.  I ordered this hair tie in the summer and it was backordered until about a month ago.  It sold out last year and I was so disappointed!  I don't often wear my hair up but I love having this option.  It's very festive, too!

I've worn this ruffle sleeve pullover sweater a couple of times outside of work and it's very cozy and fits TTS (I'm wearing an XS).  Also, burgundy is so good for fall & winter.

Finally, this Swing Shirt Dress from Old Navy.  Everyone loves a swing dress, they are so comfortable and hide everything so you can wear them when you want to eat a lot (hello, US Thanksgiving!) or are just feeling kind of blah.  The only problem is, because they are so shapeless they can be kind of unflattering.  I like how this one is a little more dressy with the collar and buttons.  T said it looked like I was wearing a men's dress shirt!  LOL ... men!

I'm heading to Toronto tomorrow for work and will be back on Thursday, US Thanksgiving!

I probably won't have a blog post up next weekend, since I'm out of town most of the week and then my parents are coming to stay with us on the weekend.  So be sure to follow along on Stories, and I hope all of my US readers have a great Thanksgiving and long weekend!

Jules in Flats - November Outfits (Business Casual Fall Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone! Happy November!

I got lucky with the weather this week and was able to take outfit pics outside again!

It's funny to see a theme or pattern emerge at the end of the week when I'm going through all of my outfit pics and narrowing them down for editing. Like this week the theme seemed to be dots! I swear this is not intentional but maybe it's subconscious?!

Anyways, I have a few new things to share with you this week!

I love a good mini skirt and tweed is such an iconic fall/winter fabric.  I like how this skirt has lots of different colours in it, so you could pull out any of those colours to pair with it.  I chose to keep it really simple this time and just go with black, but I can see pairing it with white, grey, blue or red!

How cute is this dress?  It's such a simple pattern, but the collar and sleeve details, along with the pearl buttons and lace trim in the centre make it special.  It's a little bit Wednesday Adams, too and I'm okay with that!

I talked all about my love for these last week and here they are!  After wearing them a few more times I can attest to their comfort & walkability, as well as how they look.  If you're in the market for a pair of dress booties, I could not recommend them more!

In other shopping news, I returned both the leopard cardigan and stripe jumpsuit from Hollister, along with the red dress from Zara and the mock neck sweater from Dynamite.  I kept this mustard scalloped-hem sweater from Dynamite and hope that it holds up after washing & wearing as the reviews are not good!

What have you been buying and loving?  Tell me in comments below!

Hi everyone!

This week it was difficult to take outfits pics outside due to the rain and it being so dark, so the format of today's post is a little different with a combination of DSLR and iPhone photos and mirror selfies.  I hope you don't mind!

It's clear however that I need to come up with a solution for outfit pics as it's not going to get any less rainy or dark in the coming months!  Well, Daylight Savings is tomorrow, so it will get lighter in the mornings, but I know we have many more months of rain to come!

At our old apartment, we had a covered balcony on the second floor of a three-storey building that faced south, so it got the morning light.  There weren't many trees, so even on a dark, rainy day the light was pretty decent.  And since both the camera and myself were covered, it all worked out!

At our new apartment, we also have a covered balcony that faces south, but we also have a lot of trees.  I actually love the trees, they provide a lot of privacy from neighbours and pedestrians and look lovely through our big dining and living room windows, but darn if they don't block out that morning light!

Writing this, I just realized that our building is having balcony renovations done starting in January, so this may all be a moot point anyways!  Regardless, I hope you'll continue to follow along and that you don't mind a few iPhone mirror selfies!!  xo

I just bought these earrings on clearance from J.Crew Factory but they've sold out now, sorry!  The necklace I think is from Etsy

OK, now let's talk shopping!  My H&M order arrived and I'm definitely keeping the skirt, you'll probably see it on the blog next week :) . The jacket I'm pretty sure I'm going to return as it's just a bit too boxy in the shoulders.  I have a similar jacket from there that I feel the same way about, and always hesitate to wear it because of that.  The jumpsuit and cardigan from Hollister arrived yesterday, but I haven't tried them on yet so stay tuned on that!  In VERY good news, I finally found a pair of dress booties for work!!  I ended up going with the Steve Madden Blaire bootie, which has a totally walkable 2" block heel, pointed toe, and faux-suede sock-like upper.  They don't dig into my leg when I walk, they don't cut-off my leg visually and the pointed toe and slight heel make them dressy,  so I am super happy!  I walked to and from work in them yesterday (8 blocks each way) and they weren't uncomfortable at all!  There's no padding in the sole at all, so I may end up putting a small gel insole in the toe or something just for extra comfort, but I don't think it's necessary by any means.  Since they're a faux-suede, should I spray them with suede protector?!  Is that a stupid question?  LOL

Anyways, I hope you all have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!
