My favourite beauty products

9.27.2013

Hi everyone!  Happy Friday!
This week I've been really bad about taking outfit photos so I'm doing a beauty post instead.  To be truthful, I've worn t-shirts and jeans or Lululemon pants all week as I haven't really needed to go anywhere other than the gym.  Most days I don't even use all of these products, just #1, #6 & #7.  But on days when I do wear "full makeup", this is what I use.

My favourite beauty products

1. Stay Don't Stray by Benefit Cosmetics (Buy Here)
This is a product that I use everyday.  It's an eyeshadow primer but I often wear without eyeshadow as it really brightens up my eyes and makes me look more awake instantly.  It's expensive, but lasts forever.

2. Maybelline Eyeshadow in Smokey Taupe (Buy Here)
Sometimes I swipe this on if I want to "set" the primer.  It's really neutral so it looks like you aren't wearing anything, and is a good base for layering and blending darker shadows too.

3.  Rimmel ScandalEyes Gel Liner in Brown (Buy Here)
I just bought this and am in love.  I used to use another liquid liner by Rimmel that's been discontinued so I decided to give this one a shot.  I love it!

4. Eyelash curler  (Buy Here)
I don't even know what brand mine is, I've had it for so long.  I'd love a Shu Uemura one though, I've heard great things!  Anyways, I never put mascara on without curling my lashes first.  Instantly opens eyes & makes lashes look longer

5. L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Brown/Black  (Buy Here)
My favourite mascara.  I've tried others, but always come back to this one.  It's a classic.

6. Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm/Laguna  (Buy Here)
Two more cult classics.  Can be worn separately or layered together.  Both shades are incredible.

7. Blistex Lip Treatment  (Buy Here)
I am addicted to lip balm and Blistex is my go-to brand.  Chapstick and Burt's Bees just won't do.

My Picks for Best Dressed at the Emmys

9.25.2013

Hi everyone!

Did you all watch the Emmys on Sunday night?  What did you think?
We watched them on Monday night & I really enjoyed them ... and the red carpet fashion of course!

Here are my picks for Best Dressed:

Sophia Vergara in Vera Wang.
The va-va-voom style and silhouette is nothing new for Sophia, but she knows what works for her and isn't afraid to show off her great figure.

Anna Gunn in Romona Keveza.
We don't see her much on the red carpet, but I don't think she's ever looked better.

 Zooey Deschanel in Charlotte Olympia.
Zooey looks elegant in this dress. It's less "quirky" than we're used to seeing, but still suits her beautifully.

 Rose Byrne in Calvin Klein.
I'm not really wild about her new hair colour but damn, she looks good in this dress!

Who were your faves?

Compromise

9.23.2013

(Top by Aritzia, Jeans by 7 for all Mankind, Shoes by Aldo, Scarf & Belt by H&M, Purse by Coach, Earrings by Tiffany & Co.)

Hi everyone!  How was your weekend?
Ours was very relaxing, we just cozied up at home pretty much the whole time.  And we went to see The National (who I love) in the rain :(

Last week I went downtown to shop for wedding jewelry.  I couldn't help but check out some other stores while I was down there and ended up buying this scarf and belt (which you can't really see, but was a necessity purchase) from H&M.  I was in need of a black leather belt, and scored this one for $19.99* + 25% off (with a one-day-only coupon that landed in my inbox that morning).  The scarf was $12.95 (and is super soft) and I also purchased a silver statement necklace (here in antique gold).

It's really hard to not think about shopping, to not want to buy new things, to update your wardrobe when the seasons change.  Especially when you're on a budget, or you don't  have a lot of extra spending money lying around (hello, me!).  So purchasing a few inexpensive accessories that you can wear and remix all season is a good compromise; and your wallet & conscience will thank you!

*online price is $14.95 but in stores it was $19.99

Well I guess one good thing I can say about Fall is that I can wear scarves again!  Yay!
Though, to be honest, this isn't actually what I wore yesterday.  After I took these pics I decided it was too warm for a long sleeve shirt and changed into a black t-shirt.  Argh, Fall!

For the Win

9.16.2013

(Dress & Belt by Forever 21, Cardigan by Gap, Sandals & Bracelet by Aldo, Purse by Coach, Necklace by Tiffany & Co.)

Hi everyone!  Happy Monday!
This is definitely not what I'm wearing today, as the weather has taken a serious turn, but rather an outfit that I wore last week to a job interview.  I think it went well, and I am definitely qualified for the position, so we'll see what happens.  I did my best and now just have to wait for them to interview the other candidates and make a decision.

What did y'all do on the weekend?
We definitely had a lazy one, which coincided perfectly with our gloomy weather.  Saturday night we got out of the house & went to play board games at a friend's house.  Scattegories for the win!

Here's to a great week!

(Top by Gap, Skirt by Forever 21 (here in white), Sandals by Aldo, Necklace by Tiffany & Co., Bag by Coach)

This yellow skirt from Forever 21 is the final item I purchased at my trip to the Outlets earlier this summer.  Already you've seen these Gap Khakis, this polka dot top, this purple sweater, and these black skinny jeansThis skirt is quite cute, if a little on the big side (it's a little loose around the waist, which is great for eating & general comfort, but that means it tends to shift around a lot).

My cardigans from Gap's Labour Day Sale arrived the other day, and I'm really happy with the light grey one.  Once the weather cools down again I'll post it for you!  I actually wore it with the above outfit, later on in the day, when T and I went for dinner.  I also ordered the cardigan in "Ivory Frost" but am going to return it.  I'm not quite sure why, but I'm not in love with it.

I hope you have a happy weekened!

Impromptu

9.11.2013

(Top by Old Navy, Skirt by H&M, Sandals by Le Chateau, Purse by Coach, Necklace by Aldo)

Hi everyone!

I wore this outfit on Monday for an impromptu lunch date with my cousin, J.
It feels like summer's back for once last hurrah this week as it was warm enough to wear this, and glorious to take the 10 minute walk to lunch.  After our Vitenamese baguettes, salad rolls & iced coffee we walked along the seawall back to his place near Kits beach.  The sun just kept getting warmer and it was a really nice way to spend the afternoon, catching up after almost a whole summer of not seeing him ... and we live in the same city!

Here's to an awesome rest of the week, too!

B&W

(Top by Forever 21, Jeans by Gap (outlet), Shoes by Urban Outfitters, Jewelry by Tiffany & Co.)

I forgot that I also purchased these black skinny jeans from the Gap outlet when I was there in July ... I guess because I hadn't worn them yet!  They are the "1969 Always Skinny" in 26/2 and boy are they tight!  Yowza!  I think I would classify them as jeggings as they are super stretchy, but they do hold their shape.  I would definitely recommend them if you are in the market for a pair of black skinny jeans/jeggings.

Anyways, how was your weekend?
We got into a bit of an impromptu furniture re-arrange with a couple of cabinets in our den/sunroom area which has left us with a countertop full of glasses and booze that have nowhere to go.  Seriously.  Our kitchen cupboards are totally full and we have no plan for what to do with the contents of our liquor-cabinet-no-more.  If only an amazing, cheap, bar cart would miraculously appear!

(Top by H&M, Pants by Joe Fresh, Belt by unknown, Shoes by Banana Republic (outlet), Necklaces by Forever 21)

Ah, Friday!

Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend?

We have absolutely zero, aside from a Skype date tonight with a potential wedding photographer, which honestly I hope goes really well so that we can finally make a decision and lock someone in.  In my opinion, a good photographer is hugely important for the wedding.  The pictures are all you will have to remember the day and from what I hear, the day goes by in kind of a blur, so good photos are especially important so you can remember all those little details that you may not have fully taken in on the day.

Anyways.
Here's a casual outfit from a few days ago.  I love all the major elements of this outfit (top, pants, shoes) separately, so why not put them all together?

Purple for the Win

9.04.2013

(Sweater by Gap (outlet), Jeans by 7 for all Mankind, Shoes by Banana Republic (outlet), Purse by Coach, Necklace by Joe Fresh)

This sweater is another recent purchase from my trip to the Tulalip Outlet mall.  I don't see an equivalent at Gap online, which is to bad, because it's a great sweater.  At the outlet it came in a lot of different colours and a few striped options as well.  I have always felt that purple looks good on me, but I don't have that much of it in my closet so this sweater was a definite win for me.

Since I'm not working, I don't have much spending money so I didn't take advantage of all of the awesome Labour Day sales going on ... except for one!  Gah!  I've been in need (seriously, my usual one has holes in the armpits!) of a new hip-length light grey cardigan and Gap had one on sale for $23, regular $50, so I decided to go for it.  I also bought one in "Ivory Frost" as I don't currently have a white cardigan in my closet and I think it will be quite a versatile item, year round.

Did you get any deals this Labour Day weekend?
