Hi everyone!  So my big order from Gap/Old Navy arrived this week, but my parents were staying with us and I didn't have time to try anything on.  I'm hoping to do a try-on on Insta Stories today which I'll save to my Highlights if you're interested, and I'll also do a recap of what I kept next week on the blog.  I wore my new cardigan twice this week, once on Monday (first outfit), and once on Friday (not shown), so I think it's safe to say I'm loving it!

My allergies have been acting up a little bit this week, plus Tony had a really bad cold which I think I caught a tiny bit of.  Sneezing and sniffling constantly are no fun!  Last year I tried a nasal spray which really helped but it doesn't seem to be working anymore!  Is that a thing?  Fellow allergy sufferers, please share your remedies!

Tony is at a board game convention today and I am working on the blog, and then going to an appraisal appointment for work in the afternoon.  Tomorrow we don't have any plans but it's supposed to be nice and sunny, and Tony just bought a bunch of herbs and gardening equipment, so he may get started on that! (or not, I don't know! LOL).  I bought the new Taylor Jenkins Reid book and am excited to get into that, too.  If you haven't read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and are looking for a lighter read, I would highly recommend it!  It's very fun, easy to read but also quite heartfelt.

I'll be posting my Monthly Outfit Roundup tomorrow, so be sure to come back for that.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you have a great weekend!!

March Outfits Week Three

Jules in Flats - March Work Outfits

Jules in Flats - March Work Outfits

Hi everyone!  As promised, I'm wearing my new J.Crew faux-wrap top in the first outfit below.  This top is currently on sale for $52 in this colour and other colours are even less so if you're interested now is a good time to pull the trigger.  The striped peplum top I wore last week is also on sale for $71 + an extra 50% off, and I am seriously considering getting this top even though it's final sale ...

I did a big online order from Old Navy and Gap last weekend, as they were both having a 40% off everything sale.  So far only a few things have arrived: this midi dress in black and periwinkle, this long cardigan in cream and this sweater in grey.  The midi dresses didn't fit quite right (the neckline was too low to wear to work, and it just didn't fit right up top - like my torso was too short for the way it was cut or something) but I'm keeping the cardigan which is perfect for Spring, as well as the sweater which I'm hoping I will still like by the time next Winter rolls around LOL.

I also ordered two yellow dresses to try/choose from (this one and this one), some high-rise skinny ankle pants in olive, gingham and black dots, this cute cap sleeve button up top in white and blue, a pair of jean shorts, these espadrille slides, joggers, a chunky cardigan and two mock neck sweaters (this one in Sand and this one in Coral) for next Winter.

Once everything arrives I will report back with what I kept and what I returned!

Can we talk about the fact that it's the middle of March and I'm not wearing tights?!!  Typically I stop wearing tights around April 1st but it was so nice this week I had to do it!  Luckily I still have a bit of a tan from Costa Rica, and I do use Tan Towels every once in awhile to maintain some sort of glow.  In addition, on both days this week that I went bare-legged I used Jergens Body Glow.

This week my sister and her fam came to visit us and stayed overnight Thursday before heading to Vancouver Island on Friday to visit our cousins.  We haven't seen them since Christmas so it was great to get a visit in.  Next week my parents are coming back from two months away in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala and will be staying with us for a couple of days before heading home to the Okanagan.  They'll be here for my Dad's birthday so we'll go out for a nice dinner which I'm always up for!  LOL

This weekend we don't have much planned (#typical) except for friends coming over to our place tonight, and brunch and couch shopping either today or tomorrow.  Oh, and we found out that there's a new season of Survivor (!!) so we're excited to catch up on that!  Last weekend we watched the Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland and before that it was Surviving R. Kelly so I'm happy for something a little lighter, you know what I mean?

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend and thank you so much for visiting!!

March Work Outfits Week Two

3.16.2019

Jules in Flats - March Work Outfits (Business Casual Workwear on a Budget)

Jules in Flats - March Work Outfits (Business Casual Workwear on a Budget)

Last Saturday my J.Crew order arrived with the striped peplum top I'm wearing below, this drapey crepe faux-wrap top and these sunglasses.  I ordered the wrap top in this beautiful pale lilac colour called Sweet Hyacinth and wore it out for my birthday dinner with a pair of high-waisted dark jeans.  I want to show it to you so I'll wear it to work next week!  Funny story, if you follow me on Insta Stories you'll know I did a poll about what colour I should get in the wrap top and the overwhelming majority voted for green!  Which I admit is beautiful, but I don't have a lot of that colour in my wardrobe and when a sale finally came around and I was ready to pull the trigger I was just really drawn to the Hyacinth colour.  I think it has to do with wanting to lighten up my wardrobe with pastels etc. since Spring is coming!  Anyways, the wrap top is great, it's a thick crepey material that feels very good quality.  (Hot tip if you get the wrap top: there is a side zipper which makes it SO much easier to get on!!  LOL)   I sized up to a 4 based on the reviews, and while I think it fits fine if I had tried it on in store I probably would have tried on the 2 as well.   Same goes for the striped peplum top - I'm wearing my normal size (2) and it's a bit boxy but not oversized.  If I'd tried it in store I would have tried on the 0 just as a comparison.  This one is 100% cotton so it may also shrink in the wash.

I really like the look of the Cabana oversize sunglasses too - they are oversized, but not too much you know?  The only thing I don't love is that they slip down the bridge of my nose very easily.  This happens to me with a lot of glasses (regular and sunglasses) and is super annoying.  I'm thinking of ordering this Nerd Wax to see if it helps - have any of you tried it?  Or if you have another solution for slipping glasses please lmk!!

I know I said this two weeks ago, but Old Navy is really killing it with their New Arrivals for Spring.  H&M too, actually.  If you follow me on Pinterest you know I've been pinning like crazy!  LOL But I haven't purchased anything ... yet.  I think I'm waiting for myself to make a plan for what I want to wear this Spring, rather than just buying all of the cute things, but I haven't quite gotten there yet.  Like I need to go through my closet and assess what I need and what Spring trends I want to try and what kind of outfits I am going to want to wear etc etc.

One thing I'm pretty certain of is that I would like a new yellow dress for Spring.  The sheer quantity Old Navy has right now tells me this is a good idea, plus I would like to replace this one that I have.  I find I just don't reach for it that often for two reasons: 1. The neckline & shape of the dress.  I can't wear it without a necklace because otherwise it looks too plain.  If it was cinched in at the waist and had a v-neck, it would be a lot more versatile IMO.  2. It wrinkles like crazy.  Enough said.  3. (I know I said two but I just thought of another one) The ruffle sleeves mean you can't wear a cardigan over top of it.  So I'm considering this one, this one, this one, and this one (basically all of the yellow dresses that ON has right now!) . Which one is your fave?  And while we're at it, what are you buying for Spring?

It's supposed to warm up here next week and I am so ready for it.  As for this weekend, we don't have any plans and I am all about it!  Last night I went to yoga and Tony had friends over to play board games (I believe they played Arcadia Quest and Time Stories if you wanted to know!).  Today it's sunny and 10 degrees (C), Tony had to work for a bit and I'm just hanging at home writing this blog post!  I didn't have time last weekend to get a manicure so I was thinking maybe I would do that this afternoon.  And we don't have any food in the fridge so will probably end up going out for dinner, which is always nice.
Actually we've barely had any groceries all week and I am very proud of myself for making 3 dinners out of basically nothing.  Some weeks I am full of inspiration and creativity in the kitchen and others I'm just like let's order takeout every night.  Is anyone else like that?  I used to be kind of obsessed with meal planning and grocery shopping (this is when I worked Tuesday - Saturday and would fill my Mondays with chores and errands) and it was exhausting.  Also, since I did the majority of the planning and shopping, I would also do most of the cooking.  We don't have an 'I cook, you clean' policy in our house, and I also used to be a bit obsessive over cleaning up the kitchen before I went to bed, so I would do a lot of the after-dinner clean up as well.   Can you see why I was so exhausted by this dinner routine?  LOL Anyways since I started working Monday to Friday and I don't have my own car (and hate grocery shopping on the weekend when the store is so busy), it's made it a lot more difficult to meal plan and buy groceries for an entire week.  Tony and I decided that 3 dinners is enough to plan for, and we kind of alternate weeks buying groceries and cooking.  It's not set in stone or anything, whoever feels like doing it just does.  Or for Tony who is out and about a lot in the car often he'll just do it if it's convenient.  Like if he's driving by a grocery store on his way home at 3pm and knows we need groceries he'll just stop and grab a couple of things, you know?

Well that's probably enough rambling on for now!  If you'd made it this far, thank you! LOL
Wherever you are and whatever you're doing this weekend I hope you're happy and healthy and thank you so much for visiting!

March Work Outfits Week One

3.09.2019

Hi everyone!

I feel like at the beginning of the week I was starting to veer into a black, blue and florals theme!  But I quickly turned it around with the red and plaid outfit (my favourite of the week) and then the purple sweater outfit.

It snowed again this week and I was seriously considering buying some end of season sweaters on sale because I feel like I've worn all of my winter clothes to death!  I still might actually, as I can see some holes in my closet for what I need for next winter, and now is a good time to stock up since retailers are looking to clear space for their Spring items!  I've also noticed some sweaters and cardigans in my closet that I haven't reached for at all this season (and maybe even in prior cold seasons) that I'll donate to make room for the incoming new items.

What is everyone up to this weekend?  We have a bunch of family in town - my brother and sister in law are staying with us, and they are meeting up with two of our cousins and one of their wives at Rugby 7's today!  We'll meet them afterwards for dinner, and then my bestie and her husband just happen to be in town (they are returning from their three week honeymoon in Japan), so they are going to stop by for drinks later tonight!

Today is my birthday so Tony and I are going to go for brunch, massages, donuts (my fave!), and hopefully I have time for a manicure before dinner as well!

I'll keep it short and sweet this week - thank you all so much for reading!!

February Work Outfits Week Four

Jules in Flats: February Work Outfits Week Four (Business Casual Workwear on a Budget)

Jules in Flats: February Work Outfits Week Four (Business Casual Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!

My big shoe order from J.Crew Factory arrived last week and I'm wearing the Zoe D'Orsay Suede Flats in the first outfit and the Edie Leather Loafers in the second.  I still need to spray all them all with protector but am very excited about adding these staples to my shoe closet.  I even bought a new shoe hanging organizer to put them in!  It was actually to replace an organizer that has seen better days, but I did buy two just in case :)

I wore the Zoe's to walk to work and unfortunately they're a bit stiff and gave me a blister, so those will have to be work-only shoes for awhile.  I didn't try with the Edie's, since my heel was still recovering from the Zoe's, but I do think my feet are more swollen in the morning so I may not be wearing any of them to commute until they are broken in ... or not at all, which is fine too!

My American Eagle order also arrived, and I'm keeping the undies, bralette and bodysuit but returning the jumpsuit.  The material was a cotton jersey which was too casual for what I was wanting.

I also placed an order from J.Crew for this top (despite the overwhelming majority on Instagram voting for the green, I got it in Hyacinth), this adorable striped top and these sunnies that I've had my eye on since last season.

Old Navy's new arrivals for Spring/Summer are killing it (check out my Pinterest board here for what I'm loving)  but I'm torn on if I should order anything since summer is so far away!  I'm also trying to shop at Old Navy less, since so much of what I wear is from there already.  I want to try and keep it diverse on here for you so it's not just Old Navy all the time!  Speaking of Old Navy, did you hear the company is separating from Gap and Banana Republic?  I like being able to order from all three companies online with just one checkout so that's my only concern.  I also heard that Gap isn't doing well and they are going to be closing a bunch of stores in North America, which makes me sad - they are such an iconic brand!

I got my hair done this week, the last outfit with the floral wrap dress and faux fur bomber shows the new 'do - we just cleaned up the ends and refreshed the colour a bit :)

This week on Insta Stories I shared my evening skincare routine, and started a Highlight for my commuting outfits as requested so go check those out if you're interested!

This weekend we are keeping it pretty chill, Tony has to work for a bit today so I'm working on this post while he's gone and then hopefully will get to yoga.  Yesterday we bummed around at home and then cleaned up the apartment before friends came over for pizza & board games.  I crushed it on Sushi Go Party and King of Tokyo but lost when it came to High Society (That game is deceivingly hard and you can't play it the same way every time.  We have played it a lot and I have only ever won twice.)

Next weekend is my birthday and we don't really have any plans yet!  Things are kind of up in the air because my brother and sister in law were thinking of coming down but haven't confirmed, and if they were coming my cousin and her wife were going to come over from the Island too ... and then my bestie and her husband are flying in from Japan that day and said they might stop by!!  So I made a few different dinner reservations with varying group sizes and we'll just see who ends up being in town!  All I really want for my birthday is a pair of AirPods and to go out for a nice dinner!  Oh, and a donut :)  so I'm sure we can make all of those things happen!!

Thank you all so much for reading and I hope you have a great weekend!
