Hi everyone!

I hope you are having a great weekend!  On Friday night we went for dinner at Nomad for a friend's birthday and it was delicious!  We've been there before and everything was great (food, service, atmosphere, location) so I knew what to expect and it didn't disappoint!  To share, we ordered the feature "bread and spread" which was a flaxseed sourdough with herb butter, and the feature veggie dish which was hedgehog mushrooms with collard greens, crisped quinoa and cured egg yolk.  For my main I had the house-made fettucine with wild mushrooms and smoked chicken and T had the beef cheek (he can't say no to steak!). Our friends just moved here from Victoria and we are so excited to have them closer!  We tried to go to The Shameful Tiki Room afterwards but there was a 2 hour wait (at 9:30pm!!) so shared a cab back to our neighbourhood and went for a drink at The Marquis instead!

On Saturday two of my cousins (sisters) were in town to see the hockey game with their partners so they came to visit in the afternoon which was so nice!  T was also going to the hockey game with a work colleague so I had the night to myself and went to Hot Yoga (again), did laundry (T always complains when I do laundry because he thinks I don't load it full enough and therefore it's loud and annoying :/ so I always try and do it when he's out! LOL), and edited pics for this post and my Monthly Outfit Roundup for January!

Last week I found the blog Hummusapien and went on a deep dive into her 'What I Ate This Week' posts.  Is it just me or do you guys find what other people eat fascinating too?!!  Anyways she inspired me to do a similar type of post and let me tell you - it's SO hard to remember to photograph your meals!!  I took all of ONE picture!  ONE for the whole week!  LOL Sooooo maybe I'll do better next week!  I bought most of the ingredients on this list for the lunches suggested last week and made the egg scramble (with pesto) and a mashed yams/kale/black bean bowl.  For lunches on the other days I think I had leftovers?  One day was a chicken stir fry on cauliflower rice ... and I don't remember what else! LOL. For breakfasts I usually have either oatmeal with peanut butter and fruit (berries or banana) or yogurt with fruit and granola, and for dinners last week we had fajitas two nights, I had leftover butter chicken one night, and chicken stir fry the other night!

I also loved her posts on intuitive eating.  Diet culture is SO pervasive and many of the thoughts we have and things we say are part of this that we don't even realize!  For example, wanting to exercise more (or "make sure we get our workout in") if we are going to be eating dessert or something "unhealthy".  Saying "I was so bad on the weekend, I need to make up for it this week".  "You look so skinny!".  Etc. etc.  I really want to read and learn more about intuitive eating and luckily she lists some great resources on her site.  I feel like I waste so much time and energy thinking about food and exercise and how I look and to be able to let go of all of that would be amazing!  I know it will be hard work, even this week was hard as I became conscious of all of the "diet" thoughts I would have and how I rationalized them to myself.  I also still like reading food blogs and healthy food blogs and those are littered with diet culture, so I think I have a lot of work to do! LOL.

Last week when I was sick I didn't exercise at all.  Typically I work out 3-5 days/week and I do that so that I don't get fat (see diet culture above!).  Yes, there are loads of other benefits to exercise but if we are being honest, that is why I do it.  However I discovered during my week of no-exercise that I wasn't sleeping as well as I usually do.  Normally I am a very good sleeper (fall asleep easily, get 8 hours of sleep, don't wake up in the night) and I LOVE sleeping.  So not sleeping well was super annoying and I realized it was the exercise!  So I'm super happy to have another reason to exercise, and love that it's a very motivating reason (for me), and it's not part of diet culture!  Win-win!

  2. I sleep so much better when I workout too, but I also struggle with that mindset of I have to workout or I can't eat whatever. I'll have to read into intuitive eating, sounds interesting!

  6. Beautiful outfits! I love your blue blazer. It is such a lovely color. I totally agree with you about exercise. I am the first one to konk out during nap time with my kiddo! Lol 😂 But I do it to keep the weight off too but lately it's been so hard since I am looking for comfort foods! 😭😭😭

  7. The places I saw here are really wonderful, celebrating a special event like this with the beauty of nature is really cool. When you are in these Los Angeles venues, there's nothing you can do than to be happy. I really liked it here.
