Happy Friday & Happy Long Weekend!

I know a lot of people say that Labour Day long weekend is the last weekend of the summer, and I can't say that I'm happy about that.  The weather has already begun to show signs of fall (last night we had tons of rain, thunder & lightening!) and I am not looking forward to more of it to come.  However, the forecast is calling for a sunny weekend, and Vancouver usually has a mild and relatively sunny September so I won't get too depressed just yet.

Hair Stories

8.28.2013

(Dress by Old Navy, Sandals by American Eagle Outfitters, Jewelry by Tiffany & Co.)

Hello!
This was the first time I have used my blowdryer since June.  Honestly.
Normally I would love to air-dry my hair, but with work, I would blow dry every morning (and then flat iron or curl as well) - I just can't do dirty hair!  It makes me feel dirty and gross all over.
Anyways.  With not working this summer, I have been free to air-dry everyday, which I have been doing, and it's been awesome.
But, the weather has been slowing cooling down and I started to feel like maybe I should start putting some more effort into my appearance, so out came the blowdryer.  To be fair, I still air-dry about halfway, and I haven't pulled out the flat or curling iron yet!

Fishin' in the Dark

Hi everyone!  How was your weekend?
This is what I wore on Saturday to go fishing with T and a friend just outside of Vancouver.  I wasn't really sure what to wear to go fishing, and I would've just worn shorts & a t-shirt if it were hot and sunny, but it was rather overcast and could have started raining.  So I wore this and brought a cardigan.  It worked out mostly okay but I should have brought a warmer sweater as I ended up wearing T's hoody as well as my cardigan.  Oh well, live and learn.

And sadly, we didn't catch anything.

Sewing Machine

8.23.2013

(Top by Gap, Pants by H&M, Necklace by Aldo, Shoes by American Eagle, Purse by Coach)

I kind of want a sewing machine.  I think it would be so handy for little things like fixing a hem that's come undone, taking in the sides of a dress or top that's too big in the armpits, hemming curtains etc.  I'm not sure if hemming pants and/or jeans is a tough job but it would be really great if I was able to do that myself too.  Is it just me or is taking items in for alterations just a huge hassle?

Easy Breezy

8.21.2013

(Top by Forever 21, Shorts DIY (originally Citizens of Humanity jeans), Sandals by Aldo, Bracelet by Aldo (gifted), headband by unknown)

This top is a recent purchase from Forever 21 and I love how lightweight & breezy it is.
A Forever 21 store recently opened up at the Seattle Premium Outlets, but I don't think it's an outlet store at all, the prices seemed normal and there were no special discounts or anything.  I picked up the polka dot top I'm wearing here, as well as this bright yellow skirt.

The Perfect Summer Blouse

8.19.2013

(Top by Banana Republic (outlet), Shorts by Hurley, Sandals by Aldo)

 Hi everyone!

Today T & I will be hanging out in the Okanagan & heading back to Vancouver in the afternoon/early evening.  This top is definitely a summer favourite, it's a sheer chiffon basically, so nice and lightweight; a tie waist to give definition to an otherwise very billowy silhouette; and a gorgeous print.  I wore it a lot last year for work, and although I'm not working this summer, I found a way to incorporate it into a more casual look for lounging around & doing errands.

The Littlest Hobo

8.16.2013

(Top by Forever 21, Shorts DIY (originally Citizens of Humanity), Sandals by Le Chateau, Hat by Old Navy, Earrings no name from Hawaii)

I'm sure "The Littlest Hobo" is the name of an old TV show, but I have no idea what it's about!
It just came to me when I was trying to think of an name for this post, which I now realize I should have been thinking "boho" not "hobo"!  Ha ha!

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend!

Dresses

8.14.2013

(Dress by Forever 21, Belt by unknown, Sandals by Le Chateau)

This dress is definitely a favourite of mine.  I love that it can be dressed up or down, the skirt is fully lined but the material is lightweight, it has a cute pattern & colour scheme, and it was really inexpensive!  One of those gems, you know?  Since I'm not working right now, I don't have any extra money to go shopping, which is really sad!  But if I did, here's a few inexpensive dresses I'd for sure add to my cart: 1, 2, 3, 4.

Pink Pants

8.12.2013

(Top by Urban Outfitters, Pants by Gap Factory (similar), Belt by J. Crew Factory, Sandals by American Eagle Outfitters)

These pants are a recent purchase from the Gap Factory store at the Seattle Premium Outlets.  They are called "Vintage Rolled Crop" which I can't find on Gap's website, but they look pretty similar to the "Broken-in straight khakis" that I have linked to above.
I find wearing a "relaxed fit" pant can be tricky, because although they are really comfortable, they can easily look too big and/or too baggy.  In the pics above I think the crotch looks a little long and that can be a danger as well.  I always wear a fitted top with looser pants as well, as it helps to balance the look.

Saturated

(Dress by Zara, Scarf by F21, Sandals by Le Chateau, Wristlet by Coach, Earrings by Spring)

Hello!  Are you happy it's almost the weekend?  I am!  But at the same time, all of the days kind of blend together when you aren't working so the weekends don't feel all that special anymore, except that I get to spend more time with T, which is always a good thing in my book.  Anyhoo.  Do you have any exciting plans for the next two days?  T & I don't have any except for seeing Elysium tonight.  We are looking forward to a weekend at home since we've had a few busy ones lately and next weekend we are heading back to the Okanagan to help my sister and her hubby paint their house.

I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing, sunny weekend!

And, as promised, a pic of what I wore to the wedding last weekend:
