Jules in Flats - January Outfits Week 3 (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

Hi everyone!  How are you?

T and I had our 6 year wedding anniversary on Wednesday, and decided to celebrate by going to Harrison Hot Springs this weekend!  We haven't been in years but we've had a great time every time we've been there before, and we love a good hot tub (especially in the winter!) so we're excited for that, as well as massages!

Jules in Flats - Striped Sweater with Aritzia Darontal Dress Pants (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

Black dress pants that aren't Old Navy Pixies!  These are the Darontal pants from Aritzia, which appear to be sold out - I don't know if they are being discontinued or if they are just in between seasons right now, but they are a nice crepe-y material that is dressier than the sort of cotton-stretchy material of the Pixies.  They don't go with a lot of the types of tops I wear normally, which is why I don't wear them that often.

Jules in Flats - Floral Mini Wrap Dress with Blazer (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

I felt really good in this outfit!  I was on Day 4 hair here, so the headband was a necessity.

Jules in Flats - Patterned Button Up with Cropped Sweater & Skinny Ankle Pants (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget)

This is another outfit that I liked this week!  I'm not sure what gave me the idea to layer the longer patterned blouse underneath the cropped sweater (it's not a new idea by any means, I just mean I don't know why I thought of it on this day!), but it's a little different than my usual which is nice.

Normally I don't wear my hair straight two days in a row, but I was getting my hair cut after work on the day I wore this outfit, so I didn't see the point in curling my hair.  I like this outfit too, it's simple but it makes sense / works (I think!).

Okay, so we didn't actually make it to the tile store last weekend to pick out our new bathroom tile 😐... we are hoping to go this week one day after work.  Last weekend was one of the laziest we've had in awhile - didn't leave the house on Saturday at all, and on Sunday I think we left at like 2pm to pick up a couple of packages and wander around Crate & Barrel LOL.  We ended up getting 2 pillows for the couch which is genuinely exciting as we've had our couch since last spring and I hate the pillows that came with it.  But T is very particular about the couch pillows so I can't just buy whatever I want.  So yes, very happy about that.  After C&B we walked through the very depressing state that is Oakridge Mall RN (it's under construction) to the Safeway which was closed, and then had to walk all the way back through the construction zone to the car.  Le sigh.  Anyways, after that we went to Burgoo for dinner (I had the French Onion soup - YUM) and then grabbed a tiramisu donut from Lucky's which was delicious.

Here's what else we've been up to!

Watching:

The Farewell.  This was good.  It was sad, but good.  Interesting to see how a different culture deals with death and the elderly.

Don't F*ck with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer.  I talked about this last week and we finished it on the weekend despite my misgivings regarding the first episode.  It's strange and disturbing but kind of 'on par' for a true crime documentary as well.  Watch at your own risk!

The Lighthouse.  To be fair, I only kind of watched this, and T had already seen it.  It's wild.

The Voice UK.  I'm so happy The Voice is back!  It's nice to have a light show to have on in the background that is mainly positive but you don't have to pay too much attention to if you don't want.

One Child Nation.  We watched this documentary after The Farewell and again, very interesting to see another culture's perspective.  There are a lot of disturbing things about the One Child Policy that I didn't know.

Buying:

Technically nothing, but this pair of knee-high boots finally arrived (and by arrived I mean they couldn't deliver them last week due to the snowstorm, so I had to go to 2 different UPS stores in the pouring rain to pick them up).  If you remember this post, I had ordered this pair of OTK boots to try, and they shipped me ONE BOOT!  I actually liked the one boot, but it was a bit too big and obviously it was hard to tell how they would really look just trying on one.  So I returned it and then saw this pair online for 50% off, and the shaft measurement was higher!  Plus, the toe was a bit more 'almond' than 'round', and the finishing on the toe was also nicer.  Well, I think these are going to be a no as well. They fit quite well, nice and snug on the leg, but the bunching near the ankle bothers me, they are not as tall as the other boots despite the measurements listed, and the most important part - I just can't see myself wearing them often enough.

I also received and tried on the Aldo Urynda and Olealian ankle boots, and the Old Navy ankle boots.  None are quite what I am looking for - the Aldo boots were too rounded in the toe (I want something more pointy or almond), and the shaft on them were a bit too high as well.  I can't remember my beef with the Old Navy ones, but they weren't right either.  I'm seriously contemplating the Marc Fisher ones again.  Honestly by the time I make up my mind bootie season will be over.

Eating:

Teriyaki Salmon + Roasted Broccoli.  This is one of the easiest dinners ever and is a staple in our rotation.  The teriyaki sauce is just equal parts brown sugar and soy sauce (I do two heaping tablespoons of each) mixed in a small bowl and then smothered on top of the salmon filets.  You can add minced ginger, garlic and sriracha or any combination of those if you want, but you don't have to!  Broccoli goes in the oven at 400 for 10 mins, then add the salmon to the same pan, cook everything for another 10 mins and then you're done!  If you want to be fancy, add sesame seeds to the salmon before serving.  And make sure you line the pan with foil so clean up is super easy.

Turkey Thigh, Stuffing, Roasted Crispy Potatoes, Asparagus + Gravy.  This was all T!  I love stuffing, it's my favourite part of Thanksgiving / Christmas dinner so I was all in.

Meatballs, Cacio et Pepe, Burrata, Pappardelle Bolognese.  We went to Fiore for our Anniversary dinner.  Everything was so yummy, but I think I ate too much!  My tummy was going a little crazy afterwards LOL (sorry... TMI??)

Kokomo "All Day Breaky Bowl".  This vegan eatery is 2 blocks from my hair salon so I grabbed a bowl after my haircut on Thursday.  I've had their Coastal Macro Bowl before which is so good but wanted to try something new and they recommended the Breaky Bowl!  It's not breakfast like at all, so I don't know why they call it that, it's more just like Mexican-inspired flavours.  Good, but not as good as the Coastal Macro!

Whole Foods Kickstarter Smoothie & Curried Chicken Salad.  I grabbed this combo after hot yoga tonight and can't tell if it's a balanced meal or not.  Thoughts?

Working Out:

Monday - BodyPump

Tuesday - Treadmill Intervals + Abs

Friday - Hot Yoga

What have you all been up to?  Let me know in the comments below!

I hope you have a great weekend and thank you so much for visiting!
