Jules in Flats - June Outfits

Jules in Flats - June Outfits

Hi everyone!  How are you?

Here's a look at what I wore to work last week.

My 40% off J.Crew order arrived with 3 pairs of culottes, and the 2 Petite ended up working the best.  I ordered them in the grey because the black was backordered, and while I think black is more versatile, I'm glad I decided to keep the grey.  It's nice and light and Spring-y, and I probably won't be wearing them too much in the Winter so they are seasonally appropriate.  Although, with a thick cream or white cropped sweater I think they would look really cute!

The other new item I'm wearing this week is this tie-front blouse from Dynamite.  Unfortunately this pattern is sold out, but I've linked to the exact same top just in solid colours.  I'm obsessed with tie-front tops this year and am wondering how many is too many??  They are great with high waist pants and skirts and because they nip in at the smallest part of your waist, they make your legs look longer!  Somehow I didn't have a white floral top so this fills a nice gap in my closet and I can see wearing it on the weekends too with jeans or shorts.

The second two outfits I am kind of meh on.  Well, the third one with the navy pants and grey blazer especially.  I was having a hard time deciding what to wear that day, and then everything I put on just felt so tight (probably the huge bowl of ramen I scarfed down the night before?!).  So, I wasn't feeling great about this outfit to begin with, and then the photos didn't turn out very well either.  Bleh.

The final outfit with the skirt I actually liked better in person, but in the photos I think I look a little dowdy.  Maybe midi skirts are not as flattering as I thought they were?  Also, what is happening with the hem on this skirt?  It is weirdly uneven on the left ...!

Anyways, this weekend I am going to Vancouver Island for my bestie's Bachelorette party!!  We've rented a house on the lake and I'm so excited for some girl time (plus, the weather is supposed to be great!).  I don't think I've touched on this much on the blog, but I don't have many girlfriends here in Vancouver.  Most of them have moved away, and while we still keep in touch, it's not quite the same as having a friend in the same city that you can see all the time!  I am a shy person, so reaching out to new people is hard for me.  When I think back on it, most of the friends I made after high school were initiated by the other person!  I know I'm not alone in struggling to make friends as an adult - Carly just wrote about it, Grace has talked about it multiple times and even started this Facebook page so her readers could get to know each other, and the Everygirl has done a post or two about it as well.  I know that part of the problem for me in particular, is that given the choice between hanging out with T, and doing pretty much anything else, including a possibly awkward social outing with new 'friends' or people I don't know, is that I would always choose T.  And while maybe that worked when my friends actually lived here, I think it's time I put myself out there and made some new friends!

But back to the clothes!  Last week I mentioned I was waiting for these white jeans to arrive and I don't know if I've gained weight, but I could barely squeeze into them!  I ordered my regular size in Old Navy pants, 2 (and also 2P for length), so maybe this style just runs small?  I thought it was so strange because in my experience ON runs large.  But in any case, I've exchanged them for a 4P so fingers crossed they fit better!  I also ordered 2 pairs of overalls, these ones from Gap and these "shortalls" from Old Navy, along with this cute mustard top, these denim cutoffs and these block heel mules in coral to try with this dress for the wedding we are going to this summer.  I'm not totally sure I can pull off overalls, but I'm excited to get them to try!

Anyways, thank you all so much for visiting and I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi everyone!  How are you?

Here's a look at what I wore to work to last week.

I am in LOVE with the kimono I bought from Dynamite!  It's funny, I actually ordered two, and thought that I would keep the other one since it's shorter and would work better on me since I'm short (5'3"), but I just couldn't help myself with the maxi version!  I can't wait to wear it on the weekends with jeans or jean shorts, and I'm also excited to try it over a LBD.

I ordered a bunch of other things from Dynamite that I thought I was going to love, but am sending back: this jumpsuit, this striped dress, this wrap dress (look SO cute on the model, but not on me) and the shorter kimono.  I kept this tie-front floral top which I will likely wear next week (it needs a good steam!).

I also ordered a few things from Old Navy/Gap that didn't work out: these loafer espadrilles mules, this trapeze dress, this skirt and these overallsThis dress is a maybe - right now it fits on the large size, but since it's cotton it will shrink in the wash ... at which time maybe it will fit better?!  I've also ordered these white jeans in 2 sizes to try, but they haven't arrived yet.

Next weekend is my bestie's bachelorette party on Vancouver Island!  We've rented a lake house with a hot tub and I think it's going to be a really nice, chill weekend with a small group of gals, lots of wine, and maybe a few dick games thrown in for good measure! LOL The wedding is in July and will be at her parent's vineyard (also on Vancouver Island) - how dreamy, right?

As for this weekend, we don't have much planned other than a couple of open houses this afternoon.  We have a lot of packing that still needs to be done, so that may happen as well - we'll see! LOL

I hope you all have a great weekend and thank you for visiting!

Jules in Flats - May Outfits

Jules in Flats - May Outfits

Hi everyone!  Here's a look at what I wore to work last week.

Next week I will be in Toronto for work, so I won't have a weekly outfit post for you next weekend, but I will have my Monthly Outfit Roundup for May post up!

This weekend we are painting our apartment!  Yay!  LOL Our kitchen sink was finally installed this week, the dishwasher was properly plumbed, microwave and stove hooked up ... things are coming along here!  So painting is the next step while we wait for our backsplash tile to arrive, and T will hopefully put on the new cabinet pulls and maybe get us a storage unit (and start filling it) while I am gone next week.

Last weekend I did a bit of online shopping - if you saw my InstaStories you know I bought a few things from the J.Crew 40% off sale!  I haven't been able to find a pair of culottes at a good price, so I splurged on this pair, which I ordered in both grey and black to see which one I like more, plus I ordered them in both regular and Petite sizes, as I'm worried about how cropped they really are!  I tried on a pair at H&M and they weren't cropped on me at all :( Anyways, I also ordered this cute cherry-print ruffle top, and this velvet bow hair tie which sold out last fall.

I finally ordered that Dynamite jumpsuit that I've been talking about for ages, along with a couple of kimonos to try (this one and this one), a blue wrap shirtdress, a white shirtdress, and a white floral blouse.  The dresses were buy one, get one 50% off and I had a 25% off coupon for the rest of the items :).  I'll let you know how everything turns out once they arrive!

To my US readers, I hope you have a great Memorial Day long weekend!  And to everyone, thank you as always for reading!

Jules in Flats - May Outfits

Jules in Flats - May Outfits

Hi everyone!

I hope you're having a great weekend!  And if you're Canadian, a great long weekend!

We decided to stay in town for the long weekend and T had a friend from Vancouver Island come over and stay with us for Saturday and Sunday.  They are both big into board games so there was a lot of that happening at our place this weekend! LOL

The good news for me is that I was able to catch up on a lot of blog reading, editing photos and posting for my blog, too!  If you read either of the two posts before this one, you'll know that I had to back-post those as I wasn't able to take outfit pics in real-time due to our kitchen reno.  Anyways, in other good news I also got to do some shopping this weekend!

I went to Forever 21 and got this dress, which I am planning on wearing to my bestie's wedding in July.  The dress code is casual, and both the ceremony and reception will be held in her parent's vineyard.  It was only $30 so I figured if I change my mind, or find a better dress between now and July I can find somewhere else to wear it!

I also went to Old Navy, hoping to get some more black Pixie pants, but they didn't have my size so I'm going to do an online order today.  Somehow 3 of my 4 pairs are either too small, too short or too faded for me to wear comfortably anymore, and the 4th pair isn't too far behind!  I'm also going to order this dress which looks like a great easy summer dress that I can also wear to work (can never have too many of those!), and these espadrille mules and this skirt from Gap.  I don't know if the Gap items are going to work or not, but there's only one way to find out! (Don't you just love free shipping and returns?!)

The only kind-of new thing I wore last week are the woven mules from Gap which I wear so much they don't feel new anymore!  The chambray tassel top is from Old Navy last year, but you probably haven't seen it in awhile as it's not really a Winter/Fall item, even though you could layer a cardigan over top.  The lace t-shirt is from J.Crew Factory a few years ago, I just don't seem to wear it much for whatever reason.   I linked to similar items above if you are interested!

Anyways, thank for reading and I hope you have a great week!

Jules in Flats - May Outfits

Hi everyone!

Here's a look at what I wore to work the second week of May.

As I mentioned in this post, I am back-posting this as I wasn't able to take all of my outfit photos in real time due to our balcony being used for kitchen reno debris.

I'm not wearing anything new in these pics except for this gingham top, which you've already seen here.  I honestly keep reaching for it after work and on the weekends and I love that I can wear it to work, too.  I need more tops like this!

This weekend T and I went to the Okanagan to visit my family and it was so nice to be able celebrate Mother's Day with my Mum!  We asked her what she wanted to do and she said she wanted to go to Linden Gardens, so that's what we did!  It was really peaceful and beautiful but there weren't a lot of different varieties of flowers in bloom - just lots of azaleas and lilacs!  After we strolled around the grounds we had a coffee in the gazebo and went to Riverside Greenhouse and Nursery - Mum's second request!  She bought a bunch of flowers to plant in her garden and then we headed home to get ready for a big family BBQ dinner.  The weather was amazing, it was 28 degrees (celsius) so it truly felt like summer the entire weekend!

Next weekend is a long weekend in Canada (Victoria Day) and we are planning on staying in town.  T may have a friend come over from Nanaimo (Vancouver Island) to play board games, and I'm hoping for some good long weekend sales! LOL

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend and thank you for reading!

Jules in Flats - What I Wore to Work in May

Jules in Flats - What I Wore to Work in May

Hi everyone!  How are you?!

Here's a look at what I wore to work the first week of May.  I'm back-posting this as I wasn't able to take all of my outfit photos in real time due to our balcony being used for kitchen reno debris.  It's clear now, so we're back to regularly scheduled programming! LOL

The kitchen reno is coming along well, our cabinets have been installed which feels like a major victory, the appliances are in (although microwave and stove are not hooked up), and our dishwasher is running which means no more doing dishes in the bathroom sink!!  The countertops and kitchen sink are being installed on Tuesday which means the end is in sight!  I'm so excited for the countertops to go down and the backsplash to be installed.  The cabinet pulls I ordered didn't work unfortunately (really really disappointed because they would have looked perfect), so I've ordered these instead.  They are larger than I wanted so we'll see if they are going to work or not; I think they should arrive by the end of the week.

The Gap order that I talked about last week arrived and unfortunately most of it was returned - I think I only kept the bralette (which is super soft and comfy BTW).  I thought the espadrilles were going to work but after wearing them to walk to work one day and on a lunch break the blisters were too painful!  Luckily I called customer service and they allowed me to return them, even though I'd worn them outside.  Also, after all of your positive comments on this jumpsuit, I've decided to order it!  I was just waiting for a coupon/discount code/sale, and finally got one for 25% off so fingers crossed it works!  I'm going to get this dress that I talked about at well, which looks perfect for Spring and Summer.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend and thank you for visiting!
