Recent Online Orders & Reviews

Untitled #3

1st Row: Gap - Striped Tank Top / Slim Cropped Pants / Navy Striped Tank Top / Pocket Tank Top
2nd Row: Old Navy - Tassel scarf / Drapey Cropped Pants / Denim Jacket  / Pixie Pants / Pixie Pants

Gap & Old Navy were having major sales recently, so I put in an online order at both, knowing I probably wouldn't keep everything.  Gap in particular was having a sale on it's Premium Pants, and their black "Slim Cropped" style is basically what I live in at work.  Their Premium Pants are excluded from most sales, and rarely go on sale themselves so I was keen to purchase a replacement pair for my 2+ year old pair that is quickly fading.  Funnily enough, I tried on a size 2 and a size 4 at Gap last weekend, and the 2 was too tight in the waist ... plus full price in store ... but the 4 was too big.  I decided to risk it in my online order and went for a 2, which ended up fitting perfectly!  So strange how that happens sometimes.  I'm still waiting on the white with navy stripes tank top to arrive (it was shipped separately for some reason), but the only thing I'll be returning from the Gap order is the Pocket Tank Top, which was too boxy for my liking.

As for Old Navy, I had some Super Cash which needed using last week, and I've been dying for the Drapey Cropped Pants to be re-stocked in XS for months. Literally!  Ever since this Fitting Room Reviews post, I've had my eye on the size & price.  I wish I had just bought them back in February!  I was really curious about ON's Pixie Pant.  They went on a big blogger campaign awhile back and got great reviews, but I thought I tried them on in the same session as the Reviews I mentioned earlier, and they fit so badly I didn't even review them!  I guess I was wrong because I tried them on in-store about 2 weeks ago and they seemed to fit pretty well (size 2)!  So I ordered a black pair because as you know I basically live in black skinnies at work and wanted to compare the fit to not only the Gap pair I ordered but also the Gap pairs I wear currently.  I got the Khaki pair as well because I don't own any pants in that colour and it's nice to have a lighter option for pants, especially in the summer.

So, to compare Gap's Slim Cropped Pants to Old Navy's Pixie Pants:  I'm definitely curious to see how they wear, i.e. will the ON pair fade, stretch or pill more quickly due to its lower price point or will they hold their own against Gap's more expensive option?  As for fit, the ON pair are tighter all over, with a narrower leg opening.  Not quite a legging fit, but closer for sure.  Both are 95% cotton, 5% spandex blends.  I will be sure to keep you updated!

From my ON order, I will be returning the scarf and denim jacket.  I wasn't feeling the tassels on the scarf, even though it was only $8. The denim jacket, I ordered in a Petite XS after trying it not too long ago in a regular XS.  I really want a denim jacket!  I found the Petite version to be too cropped for me.

Hello!

On the weekend, as well as clothes shopping, I got some home goodies from Crate & Barrel!  I swear, I love that store.  It's generally a little pricey for my budget but you can find some good items on sale and what I bought from there was new dinnerware!  OK, this may not sound all that exciting to you but you would not believe how happy it makes me!  Gone are the mis-matched, chipped Ikea plates and bowls.  We had black plates before, which at first seemed cool, but then started to feel dated and I longed for all white everything! Now we have a really nice set of white dinnerware (and enough of it) that I hope will last a long time.  The reviews are really good for the set we purchased, and it seems to be a line C&B keeps in stock, so if a piece or two ever do chip, we can purchase a replacement without too much hassle.  Up next on our dream wish list, this bar cabinet!

Weekend Recap

Ahhh I've been a bad blogger this week, sorry!

How was your weekend?

Mine was good, but T was away so it was a bit lonely around the apartment.  I binge-watched Suits, finally caught up on the season finales of Greys Anatomy & Scandal, and went on a shopping trip and closet organization mission.  Gap was having a major sale (40% off sale items) and I picked up a lightweight summer sweater, an infinity scarf, and a coral tank all for under $30.  Canadian retailer Jacob is going out of business and I picked up some sale items from them as well: a grey blazer, a black pencil skirt & a black and white polka dot pencil skirt for about $130.  The skirts need hemming (typical problem for us shorties!), which sucks to have to pay for, but with the discount I think they're still a fairly decent deal for good quality items that should last a long time.

My closet needed to be re-organized as well and happily, that got done this weekend.  We used to keep our laundry hamper in my closet (T has a separate wardrobe), which was great, because hampers are generally an eyesore.  But I needed the space in there and we found a really cute, roomy hamper from West Elm Market a couple of weeks ago for about $40.  You wouldn't believe how happy I was when T told me to buy it!  Anyways, what I really needed was more drawer space rather than hanger space so I bought this unit from Ikea, which I had a couple of years back.  It's nothing pretty, but it does the job.  Now my tanks, tees, long-sleeve tops, sweaters, shorts/bathing suits and scarves all have a happy home!

Hi everyone!  Happy Monday!

I'm still in the Okanagan enjoying my long weekend, which has been glorious!  The weather wasn't as good as we were hoping it would be, but we made the most of it & have had a great time so far.

In other news, check out how similar my outfit from one year ago is!

I couldn't decide between the purple and orange flats so I decided to photograph both looks and then decide.  I went with the purple ones ... I hope you agree they look better!

Today T & I are hitting the road to go visit my family in the Okanagan for the weekend.  I'm hoping we'll bring back lots of fresh fruit, wine, and a golden tan :)

Oh, how I love this dress.  Red is one of my favourite colours to wear, I think it is very complimentary on me.  I remember a time not too long ago when someone commented on me wearing something red (could have been this dress, I don't remember), saying that it was a bold choice & I must not be afraid to be noticed.  I found that really interesting because I had never thought of it that way.  But it's true, in a sense.  I don't shy away from bold colours and I would rather be noticed in my clothing choices than not.  I think it's part of the reason I have a blog!  But of course, this person didn't know any of that, they were just making an assessment of my personality based on my outfit.  This is one of the great reasons I think people should care about what they wear.  Of course, if you are reading this blog, you are probably already one of those people.  But I know that there are a lot of people who think caring about what you look like, how you dress, hair, makeup, beauty etc just equals vanity.  But it doesn't!  That person's comment to me conveys just the opposite - we are judged, assessed and characterized but what we wear & how we present ourselves to the world.

What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone!  How was your weekend?

My shoe-shopping extravaganza on Friday night was a total bust; all I ended up buying was an $8 t-shirt from Old Navy & a boho blouse from Forever 21 (I can't find it online) - no shoes at all!  I guess it just wasn't meant to be :(  It did, however, fuel my ongoing frustration with Canadian online shopping - I just wish more retailers would offer free shipping & returns for us Canadians!  I would buy SO much more if this were the case.  I know its not feasible for all retailers; but major stores like Nordstrom?  Come on, guys!  Speaking of which, we are getting a Nordstrom in downtown Vancouver ... in 2015!  Lol it seems like a long time to wait, but I think it'll be a great addition to the Vancouver shopping scene.

(Cardigan by Gap, Top by Jacob (old, similar), Pants by Citizens of Humanity, Shoes by Aldo (old, similar), Necklace by Aldo)

Good morning & happy Friday!

I can't wait for the weekend; the weather is supposed to be great and I'm getting things started off right tonight with a shoe-shopping bonanza!  T is going to a Craft Beer Week event with some friends so I've got the night to myself and I thought what better way to spend it?!

I hope you all have a great weekend!
