Canada Day Long Weekend

6.28.2013

(Cardigan by Gap, Dress by F21, Boots by Aldo)

Monday is Canada Day so it's going to be a long weekend for us Canucks!
I just watched this episode of The Daily Show and loved the "special report" on Canadian vs. US Banks.  Mostly just the reactions of the Canadians.  So on point!
I have to admit, I don't watch real news ... do you?

Minimal

I've been really into not wearing jewelry lately.
I'm not sure why, but I've always been a bit of an accessory minimalist.

Just a quick hello today as I'm heading out the door for work ... somehow I didn't get around to preparing this post yesterday!

Weekend Recap

6.24.2013

(Scarf by F21, Dress by Zara, Boots by Aldo)

Hiya!  How was your weekend?

Saturday I had to work, it was the South Granville Art Walk, by far our busiest day of the year.  My feet were aching after standing all day!  Not to mention, I had one too many glasses of red wine on Friday night so I wasn't exactly on my A-Game ...
Saturday night we had homemade Margarita pizza & watched "Red Dragon" (from 2002).  We've been watching the TV show "Hannibal", which is based on the book "Red Dragon" so it was interesting to see the characters played by different actors.  I like the TV casting better, myself :)
Sunday we slept till noon then went for brunch at a local New Orleans-inspired restaurant, Ouisi Bistro.   We've been once for dinner before, which was good (love me some Jambalaya!) and luckily for us they serve brunch till 2:45.  We relaxed at home for the rest of the day, playing on the computer and watching bad TV.  I attempted this mini donut recipe (even though I don't have a mini donut pan, or a mini muffin pan) and T made meatballs for dinner.  Yum!

I forgot to tell you what I did last weekend!  So here it is:

T & I went to see "Man of Steel" in IMAX (not 3D, we don't like it).  I thought it was quite good.  I've been a fan of Henry Cavill (Superman) since The Tudors and Amy Adams was awesome as Lois Lane.  It was a matinee so afterwards we stopped off at a farmers market to pick up some groceries and then we headed home to clean up the balcony (more on that later), make dinner & some fresh mojitos with mint we bought from the market.
Sunday we slept in and then headed down to Granville Island for some lunch, which we ate outside on the seawall, checking out the geese & kayakers.  T bought some varnish for the soon-to-be-installed living room painting, varnished the painting when we got home and I read Martha Stewart Weddings on our freshly updated balcony.  T made a delicious roast chicken on the BBQ for dinner and we re-watched District 9 (the trailer for Elysium before Man of Steel had us both wanting to see District 9 again.  Hooray for Canadian (and VFS grad) directors!)

Karma & Cravings

6.20.2013

(Dress by H&M, Belt by Joe Fresh, Sandals by Aldo)

It's "What I Wore to Work" Linkup day!

And yes, I wore a shirt-dress twice last week.

I am usually pretty good about controlling my cravings for sweets & other things I know are bad for my health (ie, potato chips, fries).  However the other day my willpower lost out to my cravings for cream cheese frosting & carrot cake.  After seeing this recipe last week, I've been craving it.  But I don't often make cakes or bars because T doesn't eat it (he's not into that kind of stuff) so then I end up eating it, if not just for the fact that I don't want it to go to waste.  Sometimes I will halve recipes, but even half a cake is a lot.  So anyways, the other day, after lunch, I was bored at work and craving carrot cake.  So I went across the street to Blenz and bought myself a piece.  The outside was so hard and crusty I think it had been sitting in the cooler for at least 5 days.  But I ate it anyways.  It was ok.  Satisfied the craving, at least.  And then what happens?  I get a stomachache.  Yup, karma's a bitch.

Take it Out

6.19.2013

(Dress & Belt by H&M, Shoes by Gap, Necklace by Tiffany & Co.)

I hummed and hawwed about whether or not this dress was too short before determining it was fine.  As soon as I got to work and sat down, I instantly changed my mind.  Luckily there is a long hem which I am going to let out by about an inch before I let myself wear this dress again.  Sure, it's cute at this length, but work-appropriate it is not.

(Blazer, Sweater & Pants by H&M, Shoes by Urban Outfitters, Necklace by Joe Fresh, Earrings by Spring)

I really like this outfit.  It's not overly summery, but the cream sweater under the white blazer taps into the all-white trend and the red pants, well, go with the brightly-coloured pants trend!

"Wear to Work" Linkup

6.13.2013

(Top by Dynamite, Pants by Old Navy, Belt by H&M, Boots & Necklace by Aldo)

It's "Wear to Work Linkup" again today!

This look is from last week when it was rainy and a little cold.  It's a little cowgirl (or at least that's what T says whenever I wear these boots) and may not be appropriate for the more conservative workplace, but it was perfect for me at the gallery.

Braid

6.12.2013

(Blazer by H&M, Shirt by American Eagle, Pants by Gap, Boots by Aldo, Necklaces by Aldo & Tiffany & Co.)

Every time I try to wear my hair in a braid, it unravels pretty much immediately.  I thought I had this one in the bag, but alas, 15 minutes later there were stray bits of hair around my face, poking out of the braid, slipping out of the elastic and bobby pins on the back of my head.  Sigh.

Red Sweater Dress & Weekend Recap

6.10.2013

(Dress by Joe Fresh, Belt by H&M, Shoes by Aldo, Earrings no name (gifted))

Hi everyone!

How was your weekend?

Ours was pretty good, with till-noon sleep-ins both days, around-the-house tidying up and loads (get it?!) of laundry on Saturday, and a trip to Ikea and Steveston Village on Sunday.

I wore this sweater dress the week before last when it was a bit chillier - things have definitely improved since then and I am looking forward to wearing more lightweight pieces.
